The Sea Free songs I hear often contain stories of love and loss for me. I hear stories of people in that other universe - finding a loved one and losing them, hoping to connect with a friend but never quite finding them. This touched into my own story of loss with my parents. I wanted them so badly, but could never be with them in the way I hoped.

I never knew how to put this feeling - of longing and devastation - into words, but I did find an image for it on a trip. Now, I've never considered myself a squeamish person but on this trip I was struck. My buddy took me out fishing with him one day and as I watched him catch and release these brook trout I was amazed and disgusted. Some of the fish had ripped fins, real battle scars, but they had kept on living, kept swimming. And here we were, tricking them once again with these neon colored lures. They went after that juicy baby fly and just got a mouth full of pain. But they kept swimming. Staring into the waters at a particularly big, old fish as it swam by, I recalled the songs of Sea Free, and I understood what it meant to swim on.
